Our Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification (CN) is aimed at anyone (managers, supervisors and workers) in the construction sector. It’s ideal for anyone who needs a broad understanding of construction health and safety issues to be able to manage day-to-day risks effectively. Many people take this qualification as a first step in a career in construction health and safety. It gives a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

The NC looks at everyday solutions for construction workplace health and safety issues. At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of:

  • Duties and how to manage construction risks under the CDM 2015 regulations
  • Need for health and safety improvements
  • Producing or contribute to a construction phase plan
  • Helping your organisation to manage contractors
  • How to carry out a risk assessment of a construction site and manage a range of construction hazards
  • How to develop basic safe systems of work that include emergency arrangements and know when to use a permit-to-work system; and take part in incident investigations.
Progression

Natural progression from this course would be to take the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management or Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management which is a degree-level qualification.
How it Works

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate consists of one unit NC1: Managing Construction Safely

Unit NC1 consists of 13 elements:

• CDM roles and responsibilities
• Improving health and safety culture and assessing risk
• Managing change and procedures
• Excavation
• Demolition
• Mobile plant and vehicles
• Working at height
• Musculoskeletal health and load handling
• Work equipment
• Electricity
• Fire
• Chemical and biological agents
• Physical and psychological health

To pass, you will need to complete an Open Book Examination for CN1

CN1- Open book exam based on a typical construction site and you will have 48 hours to complete. It requires you to answer a set of questions relating to a real-life scenario and these exams are available bimonthly

Important stuff

There are no formal entry requirements: which makes the NEBOSH Certificate an ideal starting point for your health and safety training but you must have a suitable standard of English language

You will also need access to a computer/ laptop, must have the capabilities to access Dropbox & a Zoom account and have a stable Internet connection

To pass your NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction, you will need to complete the Open Book Examination.

Your qualification grade is based only on the result from the question paper CN1. The grading boundaries are as follows: Distinction, Credit, Pass or Refer
